How often do you do some kind of collection inventory?
#Response DateComments
.10/30/2007 7:24:00 PMAs a new library, the monthly item status reports are used; notes from the billed notices that come from eiNetwork which are reviewed to see if the items have been paid for or are still in 'billed; reports generated from 'create list' on specific areas of the collection.
.10/30/2007 8:34:00 PMDoesn't seem to be time and no easy way to do it without a shelf list. Really should do one soon, though.
.10/31/2007 2:20:00 PMUse a report to weed and deal with problems that arise from that report ie: missing, misfiled items.
.10/31/2007 2:38:00 PMWe need to do an inventory but I'm not sure how to go about it. I'm pretty sure the library used to do an inventory twice a year.
.10/31/2007 3:34:00 PMWe do have some volunteers that also help us with inventory.
.10/31/2007 3:43:00 PMWe don't do inventory as such--counting items, comparing with the shelf list--in the branches. We do specific collection projects, such as working on finding and eliminating all items still coded as General Shelves or with an "unc" call number or record. When we are preparing for a renovation or moving of a branch, we do a shelf count to determine shelving needs, but that is more actual counting of items for size than determining whether the things that we think are there are actually there. In the branches our goal is to do the clean-up reports run by eiNetwork (missing, claims returned, etc) every month. This isn't a goal we meet 100% of the time.
.10/31/2007 3:55:00 PMDone along with our weeding
.10/31/2007 7:16:00 PMTo my knowledge a complete inventory has not been conducted at the Scott Library. We do review the monthly reports and try to resolve issues from them. We have been open long enough that we will soon need to do a complete inventory. However, I am hoping hand-held devices will be available to take to the stacks to scan barcodes before we take on this project.
.11/1/2007 3:49:00 PMOur concept of Inventory is to identitfy items which are not where they should be and to proactively find problems we don't know about. Inventory should identitfy coding problems. Current reports only list problems that are already known.
.11/8/2007 3:59:00 PMHave done weeding but not inventory. Don't really know why, except that it it probably something we on put on the back burner with so much to do.
